That Which We Hate - A New Wardrobe for A New Life

Parent Chapter

A girlish squeal escaped Clare’s lips as her hands came up to her mouth.

“What the hell! My clothes…” her voice had dropped to a frightened whisper.

Inside the closet, all of her professional looking women’s business suits were gone. In there place were muumuus, babydoll dresses, t-shirts and sweaters.

The dresses seemed to make up most of her wardrobe. Most of them were baggy enough to look like they were made from a set of curtains but they looked like they would do a good job of at least flattering her gargantuan figure. Each one even came with a set of billowy sleeves to help conceal of her fat, doughy arms. What was more disconcerting was that all the dresses were bright and cheerful looking, many had low, swooping necklines to show off her massive tits, and several had bright flower patterns. Claire had not seen this much pink or lace in her life.

She did not fair much better with the T-shirts. Each one had a print of a cute kitten or a self-deprecating joke about the wearer’s size written across the front. Claire picked up a white shit that read “I’m not fat I’m more huggable for your convenience” in big, pink bubble letters and started to hyperventilate.

Claire stood staring at a set of “going out” dresses, when suddenly another revelation hit her like a sack of bricks. There wasn’t a single pair of pants or skirt in sight. “Pantsuits, business skirts, there has to be something.” Desperate, Claire rummaged through the closet, flinging clothes onto her floor. Nothing. Nothing presentable. Nothing she could wear to her first day at work.

Finally reaching the back of the closet. Claire picked up the last two pieces of clothing in her possession and whimpered. A pair of yoga pants with pink heart patterns on the knees and a set of extra-large jeans that look like it had been worked over heavily with a bedazzler. Her only pairs of pants and neither of them were fit for work.

Sighing, Claire looked over at the clock on her nightstand. “Shit.” less than six minutes to get ready or she would miss her bus. Defeated, Claire picked up a low-cut, beige dress that looked like it would at least pass as “professional attire” and slipped it over her head.

Claire was at least relieved to find that her shoes had not changed as much, though she took not that all of her running shoes seem to be missing. She slip[ed on a pair of pantyhose and a set a wedge heels that matched her dress. After doing her hair she looked at herself in the mirror. She was the kind of women she used to make fun of. The very image of fat and frumpy.

Realizing she would have to do her makeup on the way there, Claire grabbed her purse, thankfully one of the few things that had not changed, and raced out the door.
